Glow Fest

June 2, 2010

With all the hype surrounding World of Color this Summer at DCA, the Paradise Pier area will surely be a crowd control nightmare. So, Disney is trying to figure out every way possible to extend the after dark offerings around the resort to help disperse the crowds. Enter Glow Fest…

From Disney’s press release;

“While “World of Color” brings a whole lot of color to the Paradise Pier section of the Park, you will find bright lights and beams of color in Sunshine Plaza and the Hollywood Backlot at this summer’s Glow Fest.

Glow Fest begins with the sound of drums and powerful rhythms that will draw you to Sunshine Plaza. An electric energy fills the evening air. As the sun goes down, colors burst to life and music starts to play from a brightly-lit stage that seems to glow. Dancers and world music performers create a fun vibe that you will only find at Disney California Adventure park.”

Glow Fest was originally going to be called Festival of Color, to keep with the World of Color marketing theme. But, Disney decided that keeping this a separately marketed offering was a better option.

The event will feature props and special effect that have been setup in the surrounding area. Heavy use of black-lights, digital projection and LED lighting will paint the area with bright, eye-catching colors. While this doesn’t seem like anything “spectacular,” it is still nice to see the night time offerings get a little thicker in DCA, as Disneyland already has so much going for it at night. Disney is hoping that with World of Color and Glow Fest, people will stay in the park all night long and won’t want to leave at 6pm like they have in years past.

Disney is  already scheduling cast members to work until midnight every day, despite the park hours being listed as having DCA close at 10pm. The idea is to have the park listed as closing at 10pm, then “unexpectedly” extend park hours at the last minute due to “the popularity of the night time offerings.” Do you see the manipulation here?

Glow Fest will run nightly during Summer Nightastic! It starts at 6pm-8pm in the Sun Plaza, then continue in Hollywood Pictures Backlot until park closing.
